Frequently Asked Questions

This offer combines a tour of the Valdés Peninsula (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with airport transfers, ideal for optimizing your trip to Puerto Madryn. It includes hotel or airport pick-up and drop-off (Trelew REL or Puerto Madryn PMY, depending on availability), a bilingual guide specializing in nature tourism, transportation in a licensed tourist vehicle, scenic stops, and free time in Puerto Pirámides and points of interest such as the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus and Caleta Valdés. It typically does not include: entrance to the Protected Natural Area, meals, or the whale watching boat trip (optional and subject to season and weather). Passenger insurance and basic assistance during the excursion are included.

The full-day excursion typically lasts between 8 and 10 hours, departing early (approximately 7:30–8:30 am) and returning in the late afternoon (5:30–7:00 pm), depending on the season and traffic. The usual tour itinerary from Puerto Madryn includes the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus Interpretation Center, viewpoints such as Isla de los Pájaros (Bird Island), Puerto Pirámides (where birdwatching by boat is possible in season), and areas of the reserve such as Caleta Valdés or Punta Norte, depending on wildlife and road conditions. Photo stops are made to observe guanacos, rheas, foxes, sea lions, and elephant seals. The total distance is approximately 350–400 km. Schedules and sequence may vary due to weather and tides.

The destination is excellent year-round for nature tourism. Southern right whales: June to December (peak September–November) with whale-watching tours departing from Puerto Pirámides, weather permitting. Magellanic penguins: generally September to March, with accessible colonies in areas of the peninsula. Sea lions and elephant seals: observable year-round, with large concentrations in Caleta Valdés and Punta Norte. Orcas: most likely to be seen in March and April (and some days in October), although sightings are unpredictable. Coastal birds and terrestrial wildlife (guanacos, Patagonian cavies, rheas) can be seen in any season. We recommend checking wildlife reports and sea conditions the day before your tour.

To enjoy the tour to Península Valdés, bring layers of clothing, a windproof and waterproof jacket, a hat, sunscreen, UV sunglasses, and closed-toe shoes. Also bring water, snacks, cash for the entrance fee to the Protected Natural Area, and personal documents. If you're going whale watching, consider a windbreaker and splash protection; those prone to seasickness should bring preventative medication. The routes include sections of gravel road: please respect the guide's instructions. This excursion is suitable for families; please inform us in advance if there are any mobility issues so we can adjust access. Feeding wildlife and flying drones without a permit are prohibited. Bring a camera with spare batteries: the Patagonian landscapes and wildlife offer fantastic photographic opportunities.

The tourist transfer service is coordinated with your flights in Trelew (REL) or Puerto Madryn (PMY), with schedule tracking and a reasonable waiting time upon arrival. You can combine airport pick-up or drop-off with the excursion on the same day (depending on the schedule). Standard baggage allowance: 1 large suitcase and 1 carry-on per passenger; additional items may incur a charge. Book online with confirmation via email/WhatsApp; major credit cards are accepted. Cancellation policies are generally flexible with prior notice (see specific conditions when booking). Final rates include taxes; entrance fees to the Protected Natural Area and optional boat trips are paid separately at the destination.
